SUZANNE NORTHCOTT
SUZANNE NORTHCOTT, SFCA, is a signature member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, and is an interdisciplinary artist working with installation, video, painting and drawing. She is interested in the shifting place where one thing becomes another, studying dreams and meditations, and themes of transformation, decay, metamorphosis and migration. This interest in the space between also manifests in her continuing history of collaborative work with poets, scientists and artists in other genres. A new book White Album, (Innana Publications) of Suzanne's paintings and Rishma Dunlop's poetry was recently launched.An accomplished painter for over 20 years, she is a popular instructor for the FCA, and in demand as a workshop instructor in Canada and Europe. Her work is collected and published internationally.

OPEN STUDIO workshop in acrylic is for all artists who wish to bring their work to a new level with a maximum of individual assistance from this contemporary artist. Bring your work-in-progress and your ideas. In this workshop participants will work with Suzanne to articulate their own vision and particular challenges. Suzanne's practice is to meet each individual exactly where they are and to support them in the production of work in the classroom that expands their practice in a personal way.
The format will lean heavily on individual instruction and will also include lecture and discussion and some demonstration appropriate to the work being produced. Suzanne will speak to creating beautiful surfaces, brush work and mark making, composition, mixing in drawing media and image transfer and some discussion on ground color. Suzanne taught the "Large and Loose" workshop two years ago and she is most gifted in working individually with each person in the workshop.
Students are expected to provide their own subject material of sketches, photos, physical items or ideas. Expect to be challenged, to be brave and to have serious fun.
This workshop will be held at the Ramsay Community Centre, 1136 - 8 Street SE, in Calgary .
