JANE FREEMAN
JANE FREEMAN, BFA, TWSA, is the author of the North Light book, "A Celebration of Light". After receiving her BFA she
worked in acrylics and oils, sculpture and printmaking. She also studied medical illustration which gave her the love of
drawing. Jane has worked primarily in watercolor since 1989 and her work has been accepted into a number of national and
international shows. She has earned signature status with the Transparent Watercolor Society of America, Missouri Watercolor
Society and Red River Watercolor Society and is active in the American Watercolor Society
and the National Watercolor Society.
As well as authoring her book, Jane has been published in Spash 7 and Splash 9, and "How Did You Paint That", volume 2 and the
Artistic Touch 4, coming out this fall. She has also been featured in international art magazines. Her work tells a story about her
world. The flowers she paints usually come from her garden, and her still life paintings are full of family keepsakes and personal
collections. "I paint the things I love and I hope the viewer sees the hidden beauty in the little things I treasure".
More of Jane's work can be seen on her website at www.janefreeman.com.
CAPTURING LIGHT AND SHADOW in floral and still life in watercolor is for experienced beginner to more advanced watercolor artists
and Jane will share her knowledge of watercolor in a fun and friendly environment. She will help us: turn up the drama
in our reference photos to set the stage for dramatic paintings; compose paintings for stronger visual impact; use a full range
of values, from deep darks to bright whites for powerful drama; paint shadows in a way that will make our painting much more
believable and colorful; exaggerate color to heighten the impact; use grays to make colors sparkle; and paint backgrounds
that evoke greater depth and excitement. We will be able to follow along to paint either a floral or still life that Jane will
demo over the 4 days of the workshop and as well, we will complete a work from our own reference material with Jane's one-on-one
assistance as well as class problem solving sessions.
Please bring your own reference material of photos and/or sketches. Workshop includes demos, individual assistance, and group problem solving.
This workshop will be held at the Ramsay Community Centre, 1136 - 8 Street SE, in Calgary .
