DORIS CHAREST
DORIS CHAREST, AFCA, BFA, is a signature member of the Federation of Canadian artists and is the author of the book, "Mixed Media For Beginners". She is affiliated
with several art organizations: St. Albert Painters Guild; Society of Western Canadian Artists (Senior Status); Alberta Society of Artists; and the International Society of Experimental Artists.
She is represented by the following galleries: Art Beat, St. Albert, Lilianna’s Fine Art, Edmonton, and
CAVA (Centre D’Arts Visuels de l’Alberta), Edmonton. Her work has won many awards and has been exhibited in the United
States and all across Canada and she is a popular workshop instructor.
Mixed Media is Doris' favorite form of painting and she loves exploring with textures, shapes, and a more contemporary look.
She creates her own designs on stamps to create texture in her work and this love of texture has recently won her an award with the
Federation of Canadian Artists in Vancouver. Doris' work has also been featured in the FCA magazine Art Avenues, the American
magazine Sommerset Studio, a British magazine Leisure Painter and Night of Artists magazine.
More of Doris' work can be seen on her website at www.dorischarest.com or her blogspot at dorischareststudioblog.blogspot.com.
MIXED MEDIA/COLLAGE is for all levels of experience and for those who wish to work in a truly spontaneous way to create art. We will make wonderfully subtle sufaces, create textures,
and paint our own handmade papers. In this workshop we will start with collage in color families, and then add contrasts. We will create abstract paintings using one of four compostitional
formats, which will be presented and discussed. Additional texturing techniques will be discussed, such as spackle and combining collage papers and spackle. Embellishments of gold, silver
and bronze papers and paints, and photocopy transfers will be the finishing touches for our unique art pieces. We may also use the techniques learned to create representational images.
Please bring your own reference material of photos and/or sketches. Workshop includes demos, individual assistance, and group problem solving.
This workshop will be held at the Ramsay Community Centre, 1136 - 8 Street SE, in Calgary .
